Section 90.1 of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) sets out clear responsibilities for employers who hire nurses and midwives. It requires employers to ensure that any nurse or midwife they employ is registered with PEICNM and holds a valid registration while practicing.
This section also mandates that if an employer suspends or terminates a professional due to misconduct, incompetence, or incapacity, they must promptly report this to PEICNM and provide a copy of this report to the registrant.
In addition, employers are prohibited from knowingly allowing a nurse or midwife to practice in violation of the RHPA or any conditions or restrictions on their registration.
By searching for a nurse or midwife on PEICNM’s registrant directory, they can determine if the nurse or midwife has a valid registration or if there are any restrictions or conditions on their practice.
