Nursing and Midwifery hold the privilege of being self-regulating professions under the authority of Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). PEICNM is the regulatory body for nurses and midwives within PEI. Mandated by the Act, PEICNM is required to establish committees supported by registrants to guide the profession of nursing in our jurisdiction.
Council
The Council governs, controls, and administers the affairs of the College in accordance with The Regulated Health Professions Act. The composition of the Council is defined in the Act and By-Laws. The Council includes representatives of each discipline and of the public.
Investigation Committee
Complaints under the RHPA are reviewed by an Investigation Committee appointed by the Registrar, consisting of two members (including at least one from the respondent’s designation), and a Public Representative. The Committee, supported by legal counsel, may dismiss a complaint, refer it for further investigation, or make orders affecting the member’s registration. If you would like to be involved, please contact Mark MacKenzie, Director of Conduct at mmackenzie@peicnm.ca.
Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee
This committee reviews and makes recommendations to Council and staff at PEICNM on matters related to NP practice. All NPs registered with PEICNM are welcome to attend. If you would like to become involved, please indicate your interest during registration renewal or contact Debra Smith, Director of Professional Practice at dsmith@peicnm.ca.
Registered Midwife Advisory Committee
The purpose of this committee is to advise Council and staff at PEICNM on matters related to RM practice. All midwives registered with PEICNM are welcome to attend. If you would like to become involved, please contact Debra Smith, Director of Professional Practice at dsmith@peicnm.ca.
