The Prince Edward Island College of Nursing and Midwifery (PEICNM) is happy to assist internationally educated nurses (IENs) who are considering living and working in PEI.
Our team is here to support you through the application process for registration and licensure, to ensure that process is as seamless and efficient as possible. There are several steps in the application process, and it is important to take your time and be thorough to ensure you have completed everything, as we cannot provide a decision on your application until we receive all required documents.
To become a registered nurse, applicants must meet the following requirements as set out in PEICNM’s regulations and bylaws:
Requirements:
- Successful completion of an undergraduate degree program in nursing that has been approved by the PEICNM Council.
- Successful completion of NCLEX-RN exam or CRNE (prior to January 2015).
- Holds, or has held, a RN registration outside of Canada.
- Has worked as a RN for a minimum of 450 hours in the previous 3 years.
- Proof of liability insurance.
- Has not been convicted of any offence that would render them unfit for nursing practice.
- Entitled to work in Canada.
- Reasonable proficiency in written and spoke English in accordance with the PEICNM English Language Proficiency Policy.
- Has paid the fee(s) established by the Bylaws.
- Valid National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS) Advisory Report.
