If you wish to practice as an LPN in Prince Edward Island, you must apply to PEICNM. You are required to maintain currency of professional knowledge and skill requirement by the completion of a minimum of 1,000 hours of practice in the previous five calendar years.
In order to be eligible to be registered in the register for Licensed Practical Nurses all applicants are required to be reasonably proficient in written and spoken English in accordance with the RHPA General Regulations Section 1.1.

- If you are a student who was educated in another Canadian province and would like to apply for Graduate Practical Nurse Registration to work in PEI, please contact Jillian Mosher, Director of Registration Services, at jmosher@peicnm.ca.
- If you currently hold a registration/license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in any Canadian province and you are in good standing with the regulatory authority in that jurisdiction, you qualify for the Expedited Registration Pathway.
The Expedited Registration Pathway offers a streamlined application form and limits the documentation required to submit an application.
You may not practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Prince Edward Island until you have been granted a Certificate of Registration by PEICNM. To apply to practice practical nursing in Prince Edward Island, an applicant must:
- Sign up on the Member Portal to create a profile.
- Complete the General Registry Application Form on the Member Portal and submit it along with your application fee, proof of legal name, and government issued photo ID in order to open your registration application file.
- You will not be prompted for payment of the registration fee until your application has been reviewed and approved.
- You may be required to submit additional information if there is insufficient, incomplete, or missing information on your application, if there is a positive answer to a judicial question or a declaration, a disciplinary history noted during an assessment of current registrations/ licenses in other jurisdictions, or if there is a concern that a registration requirement may not be satisfied.
- A completed application file includes a submitted application form, full payment of the application fee, and an assessment of your registrations/licenses from other jurisdictions. Once PEICNM receives a completed application file, the file is typically reviewed in 5-10 business days.
Apply for Certificate of Registration Process – Not currently registered as a LPN in any other Canadian province:
- Sign up on the Member Portal to create a profile.
- Complete the General Registry Application Form on the Member Portal and submit it along with your application fee, proof of legal name, government issued photo ID, proof of immigration status or Canadian citizenship, and English language test scores from a Council-approved language proficiency test (if applicable) in order to open your registration application file.
- Provide a Canadian Criminal Record Check. This must be received within the six (6) months from the date of issue.
- Submit a Verification of Registration. You must request a Verification of Registration Form from all your previous registration/ licensing authorities. This includes verification any temporary/special registration/license you may have held.
- A completed application file includes a submitted application form, full payment of the application fee, receipt of all verifications of your registrations/ licenses from other jurisdictions, and any other documentation required by PEICNM. Once everything is received, the file is typically reviewed in 5-10 business days.
- You will not be prompted for payment of the registration fee until your application has been reviewed and approved.
